Trauma

Trauma isn’t always easy to talk about, but it leaves its mark. Sometimes in ways you might not even realize. Whether it’s from a single overwhelming event or a lifetime of difficult experiences, trauma can shape the way you see the world, the way you feel in your body, and even how you interact with others. That’s where trauma-informed therapy comes in. It’s more than just traditional therapy; it’s about creating a safe, supportive environment where healing can happen at your pace.

Trauma is complex and it affects every person differently. Trauma-informed therapy means  we approach your story with care, understanding, and without judgment. Trust and safety are the foundation for real healing and I'm here to help you take the steps toward recovery, one session at a time.

What Makes Trauma-Informed Therapy Different?
Trauma-informed therapy isn’t just about working through painful memories. It’s about recognizing how trauma can impact every aspect of your life. Like how you feel physically to how you handle stress, relationships, and emotions. Here’s what makes it unique:

What Does Trauma Look Like?
Trauma shows up in different ways for different people, but here’s a taste of what it might look like when it’s pulling the strings:

  1. Flashbacks: Your Brain's Unwanted Highlight Reel Imagine trying to get through your day, but your brain keeps hitting "rewind" and playing the worst moments of your life in HD. Flashbacks can make you feel like you're right back in the thick of the trauma, even though you’re safely miles away. It’s like your brain didn’t get the memo that the danger is over and insists on replaying the scary parts for fun.

  2. Hypervigilance: Always Waiting for the Other Shoe to Drop Trauma can leave you feeling like you’re constantly on high alert, scanning the room for threats even when there’s nothing to fear. If you’re jumping at every loud noise, always watching your back, or can’t shake that feeling of impending doom, that’s hypervigilance. Your body’s stuck in "fight or flight" mode, and your adrenaline is running on overdrive, even when you’re just trying to chill.

  3. Avoidance: “Let’s Just Pretend That Never Happened” If certain places, people, or topics send you into an instant panic, avoidance is probably making an appearance. Trauma loves to steer you away from anything that even remotely reminds you of the event, but avoiding things doesn’t make the pain go away. It's like locking it in a box you’re too afraid to open. That box gets heavier over time, and at some point, you’ll have to face what’s inside.

So, How Can Trauma Therapy Help?
Trauma therapy is like a toolbox full of tools to help you unlock that stuck door in your mind. It’s a safe space to talk about what happened, process it, and work through the feelings that keep surfacing. But more than that, trauma therapy helps you reclaim your life because you deserve to live without the past constantly crashing your party.

Here’s what trauma therapy can do for you:

  1. Rewriting the Script
We can’t erase what happened, but we can change the way your brain responds to it. Through techniques like Somatic Experiencing, we’ll help your brain stop playing trauma on loop and start rewriting the script. You’ll learn how to move from “stuck in the past” to “thriving in the present.”

  2. Processing the Pain
Instead of pushing those memories into the deepest, darkest corners of your mind, trauma therapy helps you process them in a way that feels safe and manageable. By facing the trauma head-on with the support of a therapist, you start to take away its power over you. It’s like shining a flashlight in the dark, you realize there’s nothing hiding there that you can’t handle.

  3. Calming Your Nervous System
Trauma loves to keep your nervous system in overdrive, making you feel on edge all the time. But trauma therapy teaches you how to calm that stress response, bringing your body back to a state of balance. We’ll work on grounding techniques, mindfulness practices, and body-based strategies to help you feel more in control when anxiety and hypervigilance flare up.

  4. Rebuilding Trust in Yourself
One of trauma’s nastiest tricks is making you feel disconnected from yourself. Therapy is a space to reconnect with your strengths, your resilience, and your ability to heal. Together, we’ll rebuild the trust you have in your ability to face life’s challenges without getting stuck in the past.

Ready to Leave the Past in the Past?
Trauma doesn’t get to define you, and it certainly doesn’t have to control your future. Through trauma therapy, let's untangle the knots it’s tied in your mind and body, giving you the freedom to live without constantly looking over your shoulder.

Because life is meant to be lived forward, not stuck on replay. Let’s work together to turn those old, painful memories into something that no longer weighs you down so you can start living life on your terms again.
