Anxiety: When Your Brain Won’t Stop Playing “What If” on Repeat
Welcome to the wild, never-ending ride of anxiety. Every minor issue feels like a five-alarm fire, and your brain’s favorite hobby is coming up with worst-case scenarios faster than you can say “deep breaths.” Sound familiar? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Anxiety is that overbearing friend who always thinks something is wrong, even when everything’s fine, and it’s exhausting.

Overthinking: The Brain's Spin Cycle

Do you ever feel like your mind is stuck on spin, going around and around on the same thought without getting anywhere? Overthinking is anxiety’s go-to move. It takes a simple situation like sending a text or giving a presentation and turns it into a mental Rubik’s cube. Did I say the wrong thing? Did they take that the wrong way? What if I totally blew it? Spoiler alert: You probably didn’t. But try telling anxiety that.

Racing Thoughts: Like a Hamster on Caffeine

When your brain decides to turn into the Energizer Bunny, thoughts race so fast they’re hard to keep up with. Your mind jumps from one “what if” to the next: What if I mess up at work? What if something happens to my loved ones? What if this weird feeling in my stomach is a rare illness? Anxiety loves playing this high-speed game of mental leapfrog, leaving you feeling drained before you’ve even had your morning coffee.

Physical Symptoms: Because Why Should Your Body Feel Left Out?

Anxiety doesn’t stop at messing with your mind; it loves getting your body involved, too. Heart pounding like you just ran a marathon? Check. Stomach doing somersaults? Check. Sweaty palms, shaky hands, or that lovely sense of dizziness? All part of the fun. Anxiety takes your body’s natural “fight or flight” response and hits the “on” switch... but then forgets to turn it off.

The "Imminent Doom" Feeling: But What If Something Really Bad Happens?

Ever get that vague sense that something terrible is about to happen? Like you're waiting for the other shoe to drop, even though there's no shoe in sight? That’s anxiety’s bread and butter. It convinces you that disaster is lurking just around the corner, even if your only task today is picking up some milk. It’s the ultimate party stopper, always whispering, “Yeah, but what if…”

SO NOW WHAT?
While anxiety loves to hog the spotlight, it doesn’t get the final say. Therapy can help you quiet the noise, hit the brakes on those racing thoughts, and teach your body to chill when anxiety starts revving up the engines.

Together, we’ll work on giving your brain something better to focus on than imaginary catastrophes. There are better ways to spend your mental energy than worrying about whether that weird look the cashier gave you meant anything (it didn’t).
